Micropost

Imagine if AWS and Cloudflare both went down. Practically the entire internet would go dark.

The more I’ve been chipping away at Tears of the Kingdom, it’s growing on me like gloom. I can’t put it down once I start playing, but it still kills the vibe a little every time I get to a point where I have to Fortnite MacGyver some contraption together.

You know what I love about PWAs? No background app refresh required πŸ€™

Weird that the ads I’m being served are for seniors lol that’s either the default ad starting place, considering I have all ad personalization stuff turned off, or I’m living the life of a 70 year old and advertising firms just know it.

The website with an ad blocker:

A notification appears, asking the user to disable their ad blocker to support the website financially.

The website when I gave them the benefit of the doubt and disabled my ad blocker:

Same website, but literally EVERYTHING on the screen is an ad.

GIF of Chris Farley from that SNL sketch where they pulled the old switcheroo and gave him Folgers decaf coffee crystals instead of normal coffee and he went absolutely insane.

This is the simple kind of stuff I like AI for β€” I took this photo at a Blink-182 show a couple years ago:

Auto-generated description: A crowd watches a concert with a stage illuminated by red and yellow lights and a large screen displaying circular patterns and symbols.

and then asked ChatGPT to turn the skull on the projection screen into a portrait adapted wallpaper:

Red and grey spiral background with an illustrated skull in front. The skull has superimposed X’s for eyes and a smiley face drawn over its mouth.

My partner has had a Kindle for a while now and lately I’ve been super jealous. Considering getting my own even. She went to bed about an hour ago and I noticed it was still sitting on the edge of her chair and the screen was on. I went over to turn it off and it was an ad (β•―'β–‘')β•―οΈ΅ ┻━┻

Drinking some Grog tonight 🍻

A hand is holding a can of Glog! Lemon Ice flavored drink with 6% alcohol content.

Screenshot of a scene in Haunted Castle Revisted: the player is facing a ghost and the portrait in the background is crying blood.

Getting back to the roots for spooky season and firing up Haunted Castle Revisited. The original was the second Castlevania arcade game and notoriously (unplayably?) difficult, but this 2024 remake is much more forgiving.

Took the daughter to upgrade from her iPhone 13 to a Galaxy S25 Ultra because she says the iPhone camera sucks. Then she tried them both out and ended up with an iPhone 17 after all πŸ₯²

Woke up this morning and noticed a beautiful banded garden spider set up shop right outside our back door!

The iPhone Air is kind of a throwback: single back camera, one speaker, gets so hot you have to keep it in a case to avoid burning your hands…

Using this battery pack on my iPhone Air instantly transforms it from the thinnest iPhone ever to a 1980’s brick phone.

Maybe if I was upgrading from a 15 or 16 Pro it wouldn’t be so dramatic, but coming from an iPhone 13 with 79% battery capacity to an iPhone Air feels pretty significant 😳 I’ve seen a lot of criticism on battery life but it’s pretty solid for me so far. And I’m on this thing 24/7

Even now that Kimmel is back I still think my money is better spent on NPR and PBS donations than it is on Disney+ and Hulu 🀷

I have three free months of Apple News+ since I upgraded my phone. I don’t think I could ever switch from RSS to something like this full time. It’s kinda fucking crazy tbh; it’s all premium paid news services, but the actual news in America lately reads like an issue of National Enquirer.

Upgraded from my iPhone 13 to an iPhone Air today. I thought for sure I would go with the 17 Pro, but after actually holding the Air in my hands I had to have it. I’ve never been big on the thinnest, smallest tech, but this thing just feels so good. Slightly bigger screen is very nice too.

I’m seriously considering picking up an Intel MacBook Pro on Amazon and just slapping Linux on it. They’re dirt cheap and have some decent specs. I just wonder if there’s anything I could do with the Touch Bar?

I ended up migrating back from Mastodon to Micro.blog for my fediverse profile. It was just too glitchy linking them together, and my post comments were all over the place between both accounts. This is my active account across the fediverse, once again.

One silly conspiracy theory that lives in my head rent free: that “S” symbol everyone used to draw in elementary school is the logo for the company behind The Simulationβ„’ and that’s why it’s so familiar to everyone, and yet, we can’t ever place it.

I’m over Liquid Glass. I thought it looked great at first, but after being on iOS 26 beta for a while, it’s getting old pretty fast. Hopefully it doesn’t stick around too long. Maybe this is all an elaborate April Fools prank. Maybe the Gregorian calendar is actually off by seven months.

Boss makes a dollar, I make a dime. That’s why I blog on company time.

Reading through different companies' goals of reinventing the browser to spy on everything you do with AI, I’m glad there are still talented indie devs like Greg de J. He makes Quiche, and it’s still the only third party browser I’ve been able to use on iOS without rage-deleting it after 10 minutes.

Note to self on iCloud custom email’s unwritten rules:

I’m embarrassed to admit how long it took me to figure that out 🫣

College football is my favorite because it’s terrible for retail on Saturdays and I, coincidentally, hate doing things at work.

Bought the domain name gary.onl a while back. I kinda want to change the name of this blog to that, because it’s simpler and rolls off the tongue better than grubz. And it’s kind of a play on words; Gary Online/Very Online. But I have so many links/images/feeds I’d have to manually update πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’«
